Title TV-Logic multi-format LCD monitors chosen for its new HD camera PPU system

TV-Logic multi-format LCD monitors from Pyser-SGI chosen by QED Productions for its new HD camera PPU system

Exclusive UK/Ireland distributor Pyser-SGI Ltd has supplied a number of TV-Logic broadcast and professional, multi-format LCD monitors to audio visual company QED Productions Ltd, based in Potters Bar, for use in its new HD camera PPU (Portable Production Unit).

The order from QED Productions comprises four TV-Logic XVM-175W full HD 17 inch reference monitors for colour-critical applications; two PRM-503A 5 inch, 2RU 3-channel rack monitors, and a PRM-902Q  9 inch, 4RU 2-channel rack monitor.

QED's System designer Paul Simmons explained the reasoning behind the decision: "When considering monitoring equipment for our new HD camera PPU system, our main concern was obviously with picture quality and trustworthy colorimetry, as well as maximising the use of monitors and multiple input connection types to accommodate our required limit of 32U rack space. With several TV-Logic monitors already in our inventory we were naturally keen to look at the new XVM-175W specification. It looked ideal for our needs - a Grade 1 type monitor with HDSDI, DVI, HDMI and analogue inputs, plus excellent excellent 'scope facilities'."

Following a demonstration by Pyser-SGI, it was clear that the XVM-175W 'ticked every box' for QED. Said Stefan Czich, Broadcast Sales Manager, Pyser-SGI: "The competitive price of the XVM-175W monitor meant that QED could utilise it in their new PPU not only as the primary engineering monitor but also for the other monitoring requirements in the production and live ingest racks - providing consistency of monitoring across the whole PPU system, as well as having the benefit of Grade 1 type monitoring throughout. The multi-input formats of the  XVM-175Ws also meant that the monitors could 'double up' as full resolution monitors for the Apple Mac Minis used for system control and on-board graphics playback. It was agreed on demonstration that even when viewed from extreme off-axis the consistency of colorimetry was truly outstanding!"

Commenting on the order QED Director Paul Wigfield said: "Such has been the success of the new PPU system that we are already planning further investments in TV Logic monitors."

The TV-Logic XVM-175W Grade 1 type monitor supplied by Pyser-SGI 'ticks all the boxes' for use in QED Productions' new HD camera Portable Production Unit (PPU).

In the PPU engineering rack a number of discrete individual monitors were needed for preview and viewing of burnt-in menus for each of the camera channels - requiring six channels of monitoring in only 4U of rack space. Continued Paul Wigfield: "The TV-Logic PRM-503A rack monitors fitted the bill exactly for this role. Their excellent viewing angle performance and clear display, even when viewed off-axis; the multiple input connections allowing easy access to any source - either directly or via a matrix; and the convenient RJ45 remote control connections, were just a few of the reasons why we chose them."

Featuring high resolution panels and high contrast ratio, plus audio de-embedding, the TV-Logic PRM-902Q was selected for use in the PPU live ingest rack, specifically to monitor the signal from the rack mount AJA Ki Pros.
